Random Words Wednesday!

This week I’ve decided that my Random Words Wednesday topic is going to be about my auto-buy authors! I think everyone in the bookish community has auto-buy authors! There are just some authors whose books we buy just because those authors wrote them – we don’t even have to know what the book is about because we know they’re going to be epic! For me, a girl with a serious book buying addiction, this applies to a lot of authors! But I do have a few top favourites!

The first is Jodi Picoult, an author I’ve been obsessed with for a few years now! She mainly writes adult fiction, that looks at some really intense topics! Her books really get you thinking about things, and by the end you never know how to feel! My mum reads these books too and we always end up debating about them once we’ve finished reading one her books! So far I think she’s wrote 23 books and I’ve read at least 15 of those! I really want her to bring a new book out in 2016!

Next is Sarah J Maas! She is one of my absolute favourite YA authors, and the perfect example of an auto-buy author. I loved her Throne of Glass series, it has the best characters and one of the most well developed worlds I’ve ever read! So when it came out that she was releasing a new book, A Court of Thorns and Roses,  I knew that I had to pre-order it! I knew absolutely nothing about the book other than it had a fantastic cover, but I bought it anyway! And, of course, when I did read it I loved it! So when Sarah releases more books I will definitely be buying them!! She won’t let me down!

Last year I discovered a new favourite author! Anna Todd, the wonderful author of the new adult After series. A series that had me hooked! It was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish, and for me it was definitely a 5 star series! I’m ashamed to say that I’ve still got Before on my tbr shelf waiting for me to pick it up! I promise I will do soon! I’ll most certainly be buying any and all of her future books!

The fourth author on my list is Cassandra Clare! I think she may well be the Queen of young adult books! I love, love her writing! Her Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices series are some of my all time favourites – I can’t get enough of the Shadowhunter world! I am very excited for her next book, Lady Midnight to come out in March! I am also really intrigued by the new Shadowhunters TV show – but more on that in an upcoming blog post!

Finally…the last auto-buy author on my list is Marissa Meyer! The Lunar Chronicles came to an epic close recently, and I still don’t know how to feel about it! I loved the final book in the series, Winter; it wrapped everything up so well! And at over 800 pages it gave me a long goodbye with some of my favourite fictional characters! But it’s still over! And I never want the Lunar Chronicles to be over! Given that I’m in love with Marissa Meyer’s current books, I’ll no doubt be obsessed with any of her future books too! And I need more books by her…like right now!

Random Words Wednesday!

For this week’s Random Words Wednesday post, I thought I’d talk about book to movie adaptations! Book to movie adaptations are growing more and more popular these days, and they are one of my favourite things! However, I sort of dread them too! You can never tell how they’re going to turn out. There have been some amazing adaptations, but there have been some that definitely didn’t live up to my expectations. For me, I try to always read the book before I watch the film because the books are usually so much more developed and immersive! So because book to movie adaptations are so popular, I thought I’d write a post about my thoughts on my favourite adaptations, as well as some of the upcoming adaptations that I’m excited for!

Of course, it goes without saying that Harry Potter will always be my favourite book to move adaptation.  How could it not be? I’ll always love the Harry Potter books, they were one of my first books I can ever really remember reading; although I admit that I did start reading the series after watching Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on DVD. There will always be parts of the books that I wish had been included in the films but overall I think they did a good job of bringing the books to life! Hogwarts, both in the books and their adaptations, will always be a magical place that I’d love to live in!

Another of my favourite adaptations is The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, and the sequels Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader . Again, these books were a series I read when I was younger, and again I really enjoyed the movies – especially the first one! Narnia was really brought to life for me! The White Witch was cast perfectly, and the Pevensie children were almost exactly how I’d imagined them. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis is still one of my all-time favourite fantasy, so I’ll still always choose the books over the films! My favourite book in the series is The Silver Chair, and I’ve heard that it’s going to be adapted into a film soon so I’m really excited about that! My only disappointment with that is that they’ve changed the actor for Eustace! It really bugs me when they change the casts!

The most recent adaptation I’ve seen is Mockingjay: Part 2 and wow!!! It was such an amazing conclusion to the series! I loved it! The Hunger Games trilogy was one of my favourite dystopian reads a couple of years ago, they had me hooked, and led me to read many more YA dystopian books. The film adaptations are definitely one of my favourites, they were so well done. Casting Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson as Katniss and Peeta really was a perfect choice because they brought the roles to life! Actually, I really like all of the casting! I need to get my hands on the Funko Pop figures for the Hunger Games because they look so, so cool!

Another recent adaptation that I’ve seen is The Maze Runner, and the sequel The Scorch Trials. I went into these two films the wrong way, I ended up watching the films before I watched the books…which is something I very rarely do! And something else…I prefer the films to the books! I liked the books of The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials but I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I’d hoped! The writing style wasn’t my favourite, although I did like The Scorch Trials a lot more. I do still plan to pick up the next book in the series, but I’m definitely not in a rush!

There are a few new adaptations coming out in 2016 that I’m really looking forward to watching! The adaptation I’m most looking forward to is The 5th Wave! I read the book last year and loved it! It was a really great YA that focused on an alien invasion. I saw the trailer in the cinema a little while ago and wow! It looks like it will be amazing!

Random Words Wednesday!

So this was meant to be posted yesterday, but right now I’m full of cold and I’ve spent the last couple of days curled up in bed sleeping, reading, and watching TV! I’m really sorry that this wasn’t posted on time, but it’s here now!

This week’s Random Words Wednesday topic is: popular films and TV that I still haven’t watched! I’ve been talking to a few people on Instagram this week about films that have a lot of hype around them, and I realised that I hadn’t watched half of them. Some of them are pretty shameful! So I just thought I’d talk a bit about them and if I have any plans to watch them at all – because some of them I really want to they just scare me!

First up is Star Wars. When I was younger I really wasn’t bothered for watching these films…but now I definitely want to. It seems like so many people are Star Wars fans, there are always people talking about it! Especially since there is a new film coming out at Christmas! And I can’t talk about it with them! I want to have opinions on them! Honestly I don’t really know much about the films, I actually get them confused with Star Trek a lot! But I definitely plan to watch them, hopefully within the next few weeks while I’m off for the Christmas holidays!

Another film series I haven’t watched is the Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit! I know how shameful that is! I’ve been meaning to watch these films for years now but for some reason I just never seem to get around to it. They just intimidate me – they’re such longwinded films! But I do need to watch them for a number of reasons! First – I just genuinely want to try them! Second – everyone says they’re good and I can’t join in talking about them! And finally – I bought a Fandom of the Month box a few months ago and the fandom was The Hobbit, so I feel like I can’t wear the jewellery until I watch the films (although I do wear the earrings because they are so cool!) otherwise someone might mention the films because of the jewellery and I wouldn’t have a clue what to say! I’m thinking of watching them over the Christmas holidays as well since I’m off, hopefully I’ll see what all the hype is about!

James Bond is another set of films that I’ve never picked up. I’m not hugely into action films, although admittedly I haven’t watched many!  Quite a few of my close friends love the films so for that reasons I do want to watch them…but they’ve never really appealed to me. So yeah…I might try and give them a go, if I like it then I might watch some more of them. But I’m not really in a huge rush to watch them any time soon!

As for TV shows there are a few hyped up shows that I haven’t watched but maybe I should! The first one that comes to mind is Sherlock! Everyone seems to love Sherlock! I don’t actually know why I haven’t watched this, I’ve always meant to. I think I just missed out on it when it first came out and then ever since I just haven’t started it…but I definitely plan to soon. I think it’s on Netflix? I’ll have to have a Sherlock marathon. I really like superhero films, and lately there seems to be a lot of superhero TV shows and I need to take advantage of this! Arrow, Gotham, Agent Carter, The Flash, Jessica Jones, Agents of Shield…there are so many! And I don’t want to confuse myself by watching too many at once! But I will be watching these, I need my superhero fix!
